FAQs
What is the CECB?
The cantonal building energy certificate is the official Swiss document that rates your building's energy performance, from A to G, like the energy label on a household appliance.
When is the CECB mandatory?
In most French-speaking cantons, a CECB is required when a building is sold or when the heating system is replaced. It also conditions access to certain subsidies. We check your canton's requirements for you. Building from before 1991? An asbestos survey will also be required before works.
What is the difference between CECB and CECB Plus?
Both are based on the same visit, but their scope differs:
- CECB: the official label that captures the building's current state.
- CECB Plus: adds an advisory report with costed renovation options, the basis for planning works and applying for subsidies.
How long is the certificate valid?
A CECB is valid for 10 years, as long as the building does not undergo major alterations.
Which documents should I prepare?
- Building plans (if available)
- Heating and electricity bills from recent years
